About Karalyn


Karalyn is a psychotherapist, writer, and visual artist, based in New York’s Hudson Valley region.

Karalyn’s work bridges clinical practice, scholarship, and advocacy, centering the embodied experiences of marginalized communities within mental health care and cultural discourse. They are the co-editor of Sex, Sexuality, and Trans Identities (2019) and the forthcoming author of When Help Hurts: A Clinician’s Guide to Medical-Related Trauma (2026), and a children’s book about grief and loss, The Love We Carry (2025), which they wrote and illustrated. They have been published in peer-reviewed journals and have served as a reviewer for several publications.

As a writer, Karalyn explores intersections of gender, trauma, embodiment, and power, bringing theoretical rigor and compassionate insight to both academic and public-facing work. Their essays have examined subjects such as feminist art and abjection, trans healthcare policy, and the politics of bodily autonomy.

They present nationally on trauma, and are committed to expanding access to culturally responsive mental healthcare through writing, teaching, and collaboration.
